For more than 16 years, Captain Dave Collins, a veteran charter fishing skipper running charters out of Marathon in the Florida Keys, has been taking anglers just like you out onto the flats to catch Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit and bringing them back satisfied that they’ve had the guided charter fishing vacation of a lifetime. The waters around Marathon are world class fishing waters and Captain Dave wants to show you why.
A charter with Captain Dave involves fly fishing or light tackle techniques and can last a half day or a full day. Either way, all your fishing gear, licenses, tackle and bait are included in the price of your charter, but your lunch and beverages are not. Since fighting a Tarpon for an hour can take a lot out of you, be advised to bring plenty to eat and drink.
Captain Dave uses a specialized craft for flats fishing. It’s a shallow, flat skiff with low freeboard and a platform mounted over its outboard motor. When you arrive at the fishing grounds, the outboard is raised and the boat is silently propelled by a long pole in order to sneak up on the fish. When the fish are in sight, Captain Dave will direct you where to place your cast in order to put it in the path of the fish. Then the action begins as that huge Tarpon leaps skyward in eight-foot arches, taking your line with him. How it all ends depends on you, but one thing is certain – you’ll be hooked for life on flats fishing.
So, if you want to experience the thrill of a trophy fish taking your lure or fly for an hour-long aerial ballet, sign on with Captain Dave Collins and let the fish know you have arrived.
